| The 2010 Unigraph Design British Cycling Tandem Sprint Championships took place on Sunday 25th May 2010 at Newcastle-Under-Lyme’s Lyme Valley Stadium. It was a scorching day at Lyme Valley and the Tandem event was underway with Simon and his pilot Craig MacClean on the track ready to complete their qualifying lap time. The time was outstanding, a record of 10.7 seconds which was extremely fast for this outdoor track. Their time qualified them the fastest pair and they were easily entered for the tandem sprint races. |
| The race’s began with Simon and Craig racing one of the slowest qualifying tandems, it was best of 3 races.
|
| Simon and Craig only just pipped the other tandem pair to the post with a nail biting photo finish to see them through with 1-0 up. |
| The next race, they learned their lesson and didn’t leave it for a photograph to decide, they won the race by a mile and was through to the next round. The day was getting hotter and so was the competition. Simon and Craig were up against the next tandem pair who were an excellent team and had been riding together for some time. But Simon and Craig rode excellent and won both races and were through to the final!! |
| The final races were against their fellow Great Britain Team Mates, Neil and Barney who are excellent riders. They were off for the first race and it was very tense! Both pilots are extremely experienced and were using a lot of tactics. The bell for the last lap was rung and they were both sprinting for the finish line and Simon and Craig won the first race by a nose! |
| The second and third race unfortunately didn’t go in Simon’s favour and he was beaten by a photo finish decision. |
